Toreros Selected for NCAA Regionals

 

The University of San Diego Men’s golf team has just received an invitation to compete in the 2013 NCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf Championships. Six 54- hole regional sites will be held May 16-18th across the country and the 70th ranked Toreros have been selected to the Tallahassee, FL region which will be played at the prestigious Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club. Thirteen teams will be competing in this region with the top 5 teams and low individual not on those teams advancing to the NCAA Finals in Atlanta ,GA at The Capital City Club, Crabapple course May 28- June 2.  This is the Toreros sixth straight year qualifying for the regional tournament and the seventh in the last eight years. The lineup for regionals will be juniors Joe Carlson and Taylor Schmidt, sophomores Grant Forrest and Mathias Dahl, and freshman Alex Chiarella.  Other teams participating in the region are Washington, Georgia Tech, Florida State, North Florida, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Oregon, Oregon State, Iowa, South Florida, and Loyola Maryland.

Chiarella Advances Through U.S Open Local Qualifier

Sophomore Alex Chiarella made it through the first stage of U.S Open local qualifying on Monday May 6th at Indian Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert, CA.  Alex shot 3 under par 68 which finished him in a t-2nd  out of the 90 player field with only the top five advancing to sectionals.  Alex will next be competing on June 3rdat sectionals with the top 4 qualifiers qualifying for the U.S Open which will be held this year at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
